People in RW twitter will still be pointing at this when the bombs and arty rounds are falling on Kiev.

Exactly.

It's Russian fake news.

They staged it.

They're actually moving troops out of barracked positions and into attack formations along the Ukrainian border.

Putin only understands strength.  Make him react to our moves.  You can't give him a provocation but he has to understand that the pimp hand is coming for this.

This gets a yes and no from me.

Mostly true but Germany is talking out both sides of its face.

True enough that the West has to avoid overing playing its hand here. In fact Putin's overplay has made it relatively easy for the West to get a deal without actually giving up very much - but they aren't going to get it without giving up anything. Taking NATO membership off the table gives the West a virtual 100% return to the status quo ante. Putin would have spent a lot of energy for no real change on the ground. That looks like pretty close to the good guys winning to me.

Take it off the table and then stage 1988 levels of forces inside Ukraine for a couple years.

The truth is the worst thing the west can do to Putin long term is renewable energy. That will hit the oligarchy where it really hurt$.

Germany:  trying it and that sweet low cost LNG sure is tempting way to lower the power bills.  Because Germany is anti-nuke.  Renewables plus nuclear and you have something.

nice of the germans to sell their pretty green souls to the russians for their natural gas because bader meinhof thinks nukes are bad.  lol.

and were still not going to hot war in ukraine.  and we still shouldnt.

People in RW Twitter (and far lefty Twitter for that matter) are never gonna be satisfied with anything this administration does on Ukraine.

Regardless of whether there is invasion (ie. The US looks weak, all Biden's fault) or not (ie. Biden was just being alarmist, needless provacative, trying to goose weapons sales, etc.)
