So you are quoting a subjective observation about the efficacy of objective measures and lack of efficacy of subjective measures?

LOL -you could put it that way...

..though Snyder would probably argue that his is an analytic observation about the lack of efficacy of myth based thinking.

The one observation that the old heads I worked with on some of this earlier in the fracas that holds as an iron truth is that Russia is always shambolic.  They are always covering up and blame avoiding for people not doing their jobs or doing their jobs corruptly.   They overcome that by treating their citizens, some of which are insanely intelligent, well-educated and well trained, as serfs.   Everyone can equally go into the human wave attack.   So, 5th generation fighters which they tout as their entree to the 21st century, don't seem to be needed in the largest war in the 21st century (thus far).  But, sending prisoners out to bluntly absorb Ukrainian artillery rounds, that's on the menu.

German NTV now reporting that the yacht supposedly linked to the Nord Stream sabotage, purportedly in the control of Ukranians, was actually in the possesion of a Russian woman well connected to Putin's gov.

Quote

German investigators are following a hot lead - the sailing yacht "Andromeda". Explosive residues were found on the ship. A special command from Ukraine is said to have used the yacht to blow up the pipelines. It was rented by a travel agency from Warsaw, which is said to be owned by several Ukrainians. However, research by RTL and ntv shows that one of the women named in the company's documents is Russian. She also helped hold elections for the occupiers after Russia annexed the Crimean Peninsula in 2014. According to the Polish commercial register, the woman owns the company that, according to German investigators, is said to have rented the "Andromeda".

Ungrateful Ukraine

Poland lashes out at Ukraine in gratitude spat

Quote

Kyiv had summoned Warsaw’s envoy after a senior Polish official suggested Ukraine should be more grateful for the support it has been receiving from Poland since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion last year.

in recent months, its relations with Kyiv have been hurt by Warsaw’s decision to extend a ban on some Ukrainian agricultural exports, which the Polish government considers a threat to the interests of domestic farmers.

Given the enormity of the support Poland has given Ukraine, such mistakes should not happen,” the prime minister added.

No breakthrough yet in Ukraine’s counteroffensive

Quote

If Ukraine’s supporters were hoping for a breakthrough after Kyiv’s forces made a new push in the southeast of the country last week, they were sorely disappointed.

The latest attack, which saw Ukraine throw in thousands of Western-trained reinforcements to drive south from the town of Orikhiv, has not yet yielded significant results, U.S. Defense Department officials told NatSec Daily this week

Even when Ukrainian forces manage to clear a minefield and advance, Russia will use artillery and helicopters to drop more mines behind them, trying to trap units between minefields

Ukraine is one of the most corrupt places on Earth. The US continues to send massive amounts of tax payer money non-audited.

Quote

Ukraine’s anti-corruption watchdog said on Thursday that it detained an armed forces official accused of helping draft-age men flee the country in exchange for a cash payment, according to AFP.

Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation said in a statement that the official, who worked in the Kyiv city administration and headed a department in the army, had issued false documents declaring men unfit for military service.

Ukrainian troops are abandoning US tactics in their counteroffensive because they haven't worked

NEVER ENDING WAR

But the counteroffensive is making slow progress, with troops encountering heavily defended Russian positions,

Ukrainian units are now ditching plans to attack Russian positions head-on using complicated Western maneuver

Western allies of Ukraine had pushed for the Ukrainian military to adopt more aggressive offensive tactics.

Some Western equipment is also proving ineffective. Insider previously reported that Western battle tanks and infantry fighting vehicles gifted to Ukraine were not able to get through the rows of Russian mines on the front lines

Ukraine continues to launch attacks on Russia.

Quote

Oleksiy Danilov, the head of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, when asked Monday about the Moscow strikes, said the conflict is “a war of symbols” and so “everything related to Moscow” is fair game.

Referring to Ukraine’s domestic drone production, he added: “We won’t be asking anyone how to use the weapons we  produce in our country to destroy the aggressor where we see fit.”

If the Administration trotted out a State Department foreign policy wonk to discuss the topic, it's a pretty safe bet he/she would establish those talking points and wrap everything up in a nice, neat package. Unfortunately it's not that simple.

The Administration has kinda backed itself into a corner by giving/promising total and unconditional support to the Ukrainians.  The concern is the emboldened Ukrainians have gotten to the point where they will do whatever they want relative to escalating the war, confident in their belief Biden will have to support whatever they do.  And that's probably true considering the amount of money and material we've provided,  think "too big to fail" at this point.  If the Ukrainians keep upping the ante with disregard for the wishes of their primary benefactor, it could get ugly fast for the US and NATO.

I've argued for being pro-cautious in regards to this war and our involvement in it.  But to complain about Ukraine hitting, by all reported accounts, government targets in Russia, it's just laughable.

The book meme is somewhat funny to me as that's one of my complaints, anyone that questions this war must be a bot.  That said, while I worry about escalation, I don't understand how anyone can look at these two countries, both with flaws, look at what has occurred in the last 10 years, and not unconditionally root for Ukraine.
