as always, when the Russians screw up, the long term danger is the West decides to overplay its hand and regrets it later. There is a huge emotional need to be punitive to Russia right now, and deservedly so, but the West's has to remember their fight is not in the main with the Russian populace. Revenge that goes beyond Putin is not a long term win.

That's why I wish Biden had addressed the Russian people during SOTU.

If you could squint, you could see freedom to associate with EU/NATO being a solid trade in exchange for Crimea.... but in terms of Russia issuing dictates? Hard to see that ever being acceptable to Ukraine given Russian aggression.

Also, if Ukraine were to give in to Russian demands now, which amounts to give us what we want and in exchange we'll stop overtly bombing you, which is a terrible bargain, the peace would be only temporary, because they'd surely simply regroup and came back harder next month or next year, whenever it would be.

Also, in the meantime, covert efforts against Ukraine would be ramped up as well. The offer is a no win as it stands.

In any event, I believe the point of the offer is to be on the record as being for peace. Not that it's fooling anybody, but maybe it's a necessary precondition to engage a certain patron for support (你好, 中华人民共和国).

I’m just going to assume it’s Russian propaganda coming from that grifter.

Its not like Putin didn't have operatives all over the place.  He has them all over the place in the United States.  In fact, Georgie was one.   In wartime that can get you killed if counter-intelligence can't allow you to give up Zelensky's position to the Russians.

Confident Russia, looking very self-assured.

Obvious move but how dumb do they think their own public is? They don't think the average Russian sees through the fact that only bad news gets suppressed? I hope all it does is allow rumor of how bad it is to run past even the reality.

To the discussion earlier about negotiating a settlement, thought provoking thread.

The amount of bad faith that Russia has built with their invasion will make any settlement thorny, one would imagine.

That, and Ukrainian forces kicking their ass all over the place...

Chechen this out

Kids!  If ROMAD can teach you one thing.  Remember, if you are within range of an enemy's artillery or anything else that can target you via geo-location turn off your cell phones!   Particularly if you are breed of savage monster who threatens atrocities against women and children.
