Zadina actually appears fairly competent on the forecheck and he could really use Veleno's straight forward game play imo. Unfortunately the Filoe Zaleno player still would be incapable of scoring but what can you do. It would be nice if either player had a sort of Rasmussen emergence like last season but I honestly don't see it without things fundamentally changing in both of their games. At least Berggren seems to have utility from that draft.... what do you thinl of berggren? seems like a third or fourth line player. drifts way too much. but he has a lot of creativity. even with those criticisms, its a decent find from round 2. I don't disagree with any of your assessments. He flashes some high end offensive talent, sometimes his vision and play-making combo is really fun to watch and he seems to have a pretty solid release on his shot. He'll probably stick in the power play specialist/third line sheltered minutes role at his peak which can be pretty valuable to a team if they don't overpay for it. But like you said, he drifts sometimes and I think that gets him lost in his own zone. At best with that, I think he can be invisible for large parts of games which is tough since you know he has the offense in there (but at least he isn't giving up chances?). I don't think he'll ever PK but I think I can envision him as a solid offensive minded third line winger if he finds more consistency in his game. From the "eye test" I didn't think he ever really looked completely outmatched or anything with his size. He was only a rookie playing 13 and a half minutes a night, and a good amount of his points were at even strength last season. I think there is hope he is still getting better at the NHL level, we'll see. But I'm pretty pleased with grabbing him in the second round of that draft specifically, tough to ask for more at this point. I will say, I thought he actually had more points than he did last season before checking, so I am probably higher on Beggren than people with more knowledge than me haha. 1 Quote
buddha Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 i saw a tweet with all the great 2015 draftees and it made me go down the rabbit hole of the 2015-2019 drafts and now i am sick. Quote

slothfacekilla Posted May 24, 2023 Author Posted May 24, 2023 (edited) Mazur has been looking really good at Worlds playing among the other pros, I'm starting to think he'll be on the team next season after initially guessing he'd be an in-season call up. Edited May 24, 2023 by slothfacekilla Quote

lordstanley Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 (edited) This is the time of year when Vancouver-area NHLers start to have pickup sessions at the rink complex my daughter where skates, prior to heading off to their training camps in a month. It has been awhile since I've seen Bedard though. Morgan Reilly and Alexander Kerfoot popped in a few times a couple of years ago, some other names too but my hazy summer brain is drawing a blank right now. Recognizable names but forgettable names, lol. Edited July 29, 2023 by lordstanley Quote
AlaskanTigersFan Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Is there a way to see a list of ALL the prospects the Red Wings have? They literally have to have over 75 from the past 6 or 7 drafts....... Quote

Five 4th rounders made it (including one guy who played 3 games in the NHL). Are we bad at drafting or is there seriously that big of a talent drop off? If I was Yzerman, I'd be trading every 4th-7th round pick every year to get into the third the following year..... Your chances of hitting are beyond drastically different..... gehringer_2 Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 Surprised looking over that list how many players Holland drafted did at least make the NHL. Just too many that weren't very good. Quote
Shinzaki Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 Look at any random NHL draft...past round 1...the number of picks that never eve make the NHL is pretty high Quote
buddha Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 ken holland was god awful at the end, but he should have statute built in front of lil caesars for the work he did in creating that dynasty. 1 Quote

I looked up 10 years ago. Only 15 of 31 2nd rounders had an NHL career with the equivalent of one full season, 82 games, or more. Adam Erne is 4th among 2013 2nd rounders in goals and 5th in points. Tyler Bertuzzi 1st in points Compher 2nd in games, 3rd in points in that same draft year, only 13 of the 120 players drafted in rounds 4-7 scored 10 or more NHL career goals Edited July 31, 2023 by lordstanley Quote
AlaskanTigersFan Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Should the NHL just shorten the draft to two rounds? Seriously....... Quote
slothfacekilla Posted August 2, 2023 Author Posted August 2, 2023 IIf he could provide dynamic offense at the NHL level it would be a huge addition. It remains to be seen against pros, but he turned that poor kid inside out with a very nice change of direction, and he had great placement on that shot after kicking it up to his stick. Quote

It looks like Max Bultman went to the tournament because he wrote an article on how good Anton looked at the WJ Showcase with some quotes from his coaches. It sounds like he was solid on both ends of the ice. Right handed defenseman running their top power play unit. Getting even a strong depth defender in the fourth round would be a huge coup for Yzerman. Quote
Shinzaki Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 He's 6-4 and can skate. Odd how he lasted until the 4th round. You would think a 6-4 RHD who can make it from one end of the ice to the other without falling down would go higher than that....😀 Quote
