Oh I absolutely agree, I highly doubt its a burner account but that is an interesting thing to think about given the agencies involved so far.

I hadn't thought much about AJ Pollock, but he kinda does make sense for the Tigers. RH OF bat with a little pop,  could be a tradable asset at the deadline if he plays well enough.

even when he struggled last year, he hit LHP really well, something he seems to always do. played all 3 OF positions too. he took his $5M buyout, instead of exercising $13M option. looks like that was a smart move.

even in this crazy free agency spending period, I can't see Pollock getting $13M.  The buyout will only work if he ends up getting a multi-year deal.

with the rash of serious arm injuries plaguing major league baseball (probably like never before), it's a simple supply and demand dynamic with starting pitchers.  The salaries being doled out to Boyd, Lorenzen, Lyles, Eflin, Walker, etc... are proof of that. 

Teams need innings, regardless of the quality of them.  And are paying dearly for it.  So comparing what Boyd received, for example, to a position player of similar perceived status or quality, is not an apples to apples comparison.

let's see how well he does outside Yankee Stadium; 12M total, 6M each year

I dont think they are over pays.  One year contracts are generally not a problem, so the deals for Boyd and Lorenzon are OK.  I don't really believe the stories that the Tigers saw something in them that other teams didn't see though.  They are both pitchers capable are getting hot for a half season and making themselves marketable at the deadline.

Yes Boyd's deal is completely fair for a lefthander with a pulse who might do 150 innings.

So the Mets have something like 4 catchers that they are going to have to juggle if the season started tomorrow. If you were Harris would you reach out about McCann and see if you could get them to throw in a mid-level prospect to get that deal off of their books? I don't know that Cohen cares but he is owed something $24 million over the next two years.

Lorenzen signed; 40 man roster full, so Clemens, Short, Ibanez and Madris would be next on chopping block when another deal made

that $24M will actually cost the Mets $45.6M total ($22.8M per year). I know Cohen is loaded but that's a lot to pay for McCann! I would ask for a lot more than mid-level prospect; and offer the Mets something actually useful, like Foley or Faedo.

Agreed. Would need to be more a quality prospect ex 3B MVientos as they have BBatty and may 'buy' another 3B next off season.

Malloy seems pretty straight-forward - if he continues to hit, they will find a place for him in the line up

Maurico or Vientos are high risk guys, with huge variance in outcomes.

just looking now, and I see Kevin Parada went one pick before Jung. no way can he stick at catcher, but hit tool was awesome.

at $12M McCann is probably being paid 3X what the open market would pay him.

pissing away $50M+ on Miggy, McCan and Schoop does not inspire much excitement
