I only vaguely remember omf and mattingly... I think they were not so active in later years?

But that's a good list:

JonBenke, Yoda, DaYooper, Shelton & Biggs were all pretty big contributors on Motown Sports...

mostly active in the politics board: aka hell on earth.

mattingly got banned when he called omf's job and told his coworkers to tell him god didnt exist, something like that.  omf went off and started his own internet publication for a while.

the last i saw of all those guys is when they all came back to pay their respects for estrepe.

now that's a guy i miss.  rip.

Definitely, estrepe was the best of us.

I've only opened up politically in the past 5 or 6 years or so... Probably why I don't remember them so much. I actually recognize the avatar names... just not much in the way of conversation. I was all sports/ only sports for the longest time... or only made time for that in a busy life...

I remember DTroppens and Cult of Pena (also mentioned above) moreso...

Is Chafin a mentor type for younger pitchers?  He was a loose spirit and a fan favorite, but I’m not sure that’s necessarily the kind of veteran presence that leads a young bullpen.  Or maybe he could be, heck, what do I know?

He apparently was good buddies with Vest iirc. Not sure about the others, but I suspect he's a good presence

Not so dangerous now that almost everybody is on the "same side".  Even those on the other side seem to do it reluctantly.

I'm a big Akil Baddoo fan but Vierling seems like the perfect platoon for him. Good speed and defense with a much better arm. Both question marks for their offense which platooning might help.

The News is reporting that Vierling might be platooning at third base with Maton. News at 11...

Using Vierling primarily in the infield would be kind of a waste, his defense grades out really well as an outfielder and the Tigers have a few questionable defensive players in that department (Baddoo, Carpenter, Meadows)

Yes, if he can hit a little bit it would be good to have a good defensive outfielder who bats RH

I miss Stormin' Norman in the Lions forum. Always there to tell us what a great job Martin Mayhew was doing, how good this roster really was, and that this team would be ready to take the next step and compete. He might finally be right this time around, only with Holmes instead of Mayhew and Campbell instead of Schwartz/Caldwell.

He’s still missed over 16 years later. I moved to Ann Arbor and recently got a new Primary Care doctor here. His name? Brian Bluhm

Tigers sign Aneurys Zabala to a minor league deal.  I'm having an Aneurys-ism over the signing

Wait until you see him pitch.  Still hope one of our analytical experts here will weigh in on why we signed him.

Right, I just think there's going to be a lot of roster flux this year, less constrained by the 40-man roster, and a lot of platoons (which there have been since at least Hinch), and those platoons will change with the roster flux. Trayce Thompson, for example, would have been called up last year instead of languishing in Toledo then sold for a bucket of balls.

I have wondered about the Trayce Thompson situation because the whole thing was just so weird.

Released by the Padres on May 14, signed by the worst-hitting-team-in-baseball Tigers on May 19, killing it in Toledo for a month (.299/.352/.639 in 25 games ) after killing it in El Paso (.316/.385/.860 in 16 games), and instead of being promoted to Detroit, gets sold by the worst-hitting-team-in-baseball Tigers to the Dodgers on June 20, for whom he goes on to crush it for the rest of the season (.268/.364/.537 in 70 games).

It makes zero sense. What gave with that?

I posted this also at that time last year. I think sometimes too many people get caught up (including management personnel) in age and to not waste ABs on anyone over 29-30. Clearly he would of been an upgrade over some players that we did play in the OF - and were not part of the future. Hey, he is a RH hitting OF lol.

Who knows what Trayce will do this year. He was pretty good everywhere last year and is a serviceable player - and the LAD thought/think quite a bit of him. I will put it in the file cabinet under 'Histories Mysteries'🤨 🌌 🛸

Al "gave" his job for that among other things.....
