I agree that it wasn’t as difficult a catch as he made it look, but if it helped the Astros lose, I’m all for it. Only the very best bad fielders have the skill set to make routine catches look spectacular. Edited October 29, 2022 by gehringer_2 Quote

A 65% probability catch in the sixth inning of Game 80 during the regular season is naturally gonna get less attention than one that happens in the 9th inning of Game 1 of the WS with the game on the line. RandyMarsh Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 K I knew JV has struggled in WS and Bumgarner has been great but considering the relative small sample size of WS innings this tidbit really blew my mind. Quote

I’m not for umpires having their own strike zone, but this could be the exception. Wasn’t there an umpire that once told a pitcher something along the lines of “a pitch isn’t a strike unless Mr. [Ted] Williams swings at it”? The pitch is whatever Hoberg calls it, and you can argue, but you should auto be run upon principle. Hoberg needs a nickname. Laser Eyes? The Strike Zone of Calibrated Truth? Quote
chasfh Posted October 31, 2022 Author Posted October 31, 2022 MLB media retrogrades crowing how this game constitutes proof positive that baseball definitely doesn’t need ABS. 🙄 That said: I’m pretty sure they’re going to table full ABS in favor of a challenge system, which ain’t so bad in the clips I’ve seen of it at work. lordstanley Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Astros get the no hitter! Being shared by 4 pitchers takes some of the fun out of it though. Quote

I watched the Pistons rather than this game. Maybe I should'of watched this one instead? Welp, 2-2 with Verlander on the bump tonight. I s'pose I'll watch this one. Quote
Tenacious D Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Big game for JV. Beyond the obvious for his team. It would help his own reputation/legacy to change the narrative around his career performance in the World Series. Quote

oblong Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 It is the World Series though. After the win they enter a best of 3 contest so you want all arms ready to go. Quote
