for example: the most rushing attempts fran tarkenton ever had was 41 in one season.  he averaged about 20 a season.

jalen hurts had 165 last season.

even playing 5 or 6 more games a year thats a massive difference.

that's true but my point is that there has *always* been an allure that you could put a QB back their that is dual threat. And you can - guys like Michaell Vick have been the passing fancy (pun intended), but in the end the concept always eventually founders on the increased injury probability. A QB is too valuable to put at risk as a RB on a regular basis. So I will predict that the current allure of Mahomes and Hurts will sooner or later founder on the same injury probability rearing it's ugly head.

I don’t think it takes four. I’m not sure it even takes three unless it turns into a bidding war. I think it takes similar to what LA gave up to go 15 to 1 for Goff, which was two 1sts, two 2nds, and two 3rds.

Just my opinion but...

I think if the Lions are afforded the choice between Carter and Anderson...

They'll choose Carter first, not Anderson.

I see the reasoning, and I think they could. Ultimately though, I think Anderson is better, and Carter’s character issues would keep them away. I also think it’s noteworthy that while Carter is good, it doesn’t seem like he’s graded as a Ndamukong Suh or Quinnen Williams once-in-a-generation type of DT. Anderson might be, if his 2021 production translates to the NFL.

It would be a good problem to have, hopefully they would choose right.

yeah - Sheila Ford may be proving she is not WCF but I would still think that given the team's close association with the blue oval, as an org the Lion's remain more character issue sensitive than the average franchise. And I think having people like  Chris Speilman in the inner circle only reinforces the Ford family's predisposition.

Looking at an NFL Mock Draft for 2024.     They have the Lions picking 31st (and not from a trade).   WE'RE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL !!!!!!!!!!!  (and losing to the Bengals).

I honestly couldn't be upset with a Lions team that makes it to the super bowl and loses.  Obviously I want them to win, but even just getting to the SB means they've tripled their playoff win total in the SB era.

Winning a single playoff game would be awesome after 33 years.

Of all the franchises that were around for the first Super Bowl, the Lions are the only one not to ever appear in a Super Bowl.    I don't count the Browns because that Browns franchise became the Ravens, who have been to several.

Im sure I would be upset at the time but by the next day I would look back and be happy that they atleast won 1 playoff game.

It was the same way for me with UM in 21/22, I was disappointed we got crushed in the semis but after the original disappointment I was happy to just be there and beat OSU.

I imagine Id feel the same with the Lions except would be even more excited about just getting there.

I disagree on the Browns, but that's probably mostly so I feel better about being a Lions fan.  I also think it's fitting that the last time the Lions and Browns were both really good they were often competing against each other in the 50s for the league championship.

WHat character issues?

That was something Todd McShay made up with no proof, nobody has confirme and seems to be completely false.

But you can't really say the  Browns because they went away for 4 years.    And in those 4 years the team that was the Browns got really good (just more sports heartbreak for Cleveland).    So if you want to count the Browns, you can't say teams that have been around SINCE the first Super Bowl, since they weren't always around since then.....making the Lions the one and only.      It would be more accurate to say the Lions and Browns fanbases have never been to the game, but not the teams themselves.

I do think the Lions tend to stay away from bad character guys more than most teams.   Suh was kind of an exception and of course the most dangerous draft bust of all time, Reggie Rogers, who had lots of issues and wound up killing 3 kids here.    I think what Reggie Rogers did probably has a lot to do with this team avoiding bad guys.

I don't think there is a soul in this city and fanbase that would be upset if they made the Super Bowl and lost.
