He's gone from understudy of villain to worser villain.   He's Uday Hussein to Brett Fafrev's Saddam.   The world would be a better place without him.  Unless he wants to come play for the Lions.

So another road game for Goff is in the books and the results are.... inconclusive.  Goff definitely did not have is best game... just 23 completions on 38 attempts.  He did cross 252 total yards, but 20% of that came on one play... that play also accounted for his lone TD.  He averaged 6.6 yard on those 38 attempts, well under his 7.5 average this season.

Now on first blush that all seems to play into the idea that Goff is much worse on the road vs. home, right?  Well, not so fast.  Looking at a few other numbers: The Lions managed just 107 yards on the ground compared to 126 average per game this season.  This means there wasn't quite as much of a rushing threat to keep defenses honest.  However, beyond that the Jets are just a really good defense.  They've allowed the 4th fewest yards in the NFL this season.  They also allow the 3rd fewest yards per attempt of just 5.8 yards per attempt... which if you'll look at the paragraph above, the Lions beat.

So all in all... I'd saying this is a totally inconclusive.  Goff didn't have a great game, but he was on the road (always harder) and was up against a top 5 defense.  I would expect ANY QBs numbers to dip a bit in that situation.  And Goff still have over 250 yards, still got a TD, and didn't throwing any INTs, take a sack, or fumble.  That's far from what I'd consider a 'bad' performance.

Oh man... that would be a very, very hard pill for me to swallow.  I don't know if I could root for Rodgers.

Agree with all this. One thing they they clearly went away from was Play action calls. I would like to see the season stats for RPO compared to sunday.

I would be surprised if the Rams win another game. At home against Denver then finish the season on the road, at the Chargers and then at Seattle. Our pick from them might be in the top three? The bad part is, we may need to root for them to beat Seattle.

How legit do we think James Houston is? Sits on the practice squad for 11 weeks, and then comes in and terrorizes the NFL in a way that hasn't been done by a rookie since friggin' Terrell Suggs. Part of it is absolutely that Hutch is getting doubled, but damn that is some raw talent we are seeing out of a 6th round pick... And to think that 31 teams could have signed him to their roster at any point before he was elevated.

If we are fortunate enough to be sitting at #3 come April, and watch Young go #1 and the Bears trade back to a team that wants Stroud, or draft an offensive tackle... Do you select Anderson or Carter? Four weeks ago, I would have said (and did say here) that the obvious choice was Anderson... but the way Houston is playing, I'm not sure I want him as a rotational piece.

It's an awesome problem to have if it materializes.

I want the inside pass rusher first. So that's Carter.

Anderson could possibly be a Von Miller demon or something similar...

But that inside dominance opens up everything/ everybody else to making defensive plays... including more Houston sacks (which he seems to be able to capably garner himself...).

Probably. But the Jags were looking at Hutch or Thib until real late last year. I don't think there is a single prospect who the Lions shouldn't consider as being possibly there for their first pick.

I would also look at Myles Murphy as a nice pass-rushing/ stout run defender combo bookend to Hutch at DE.

But Carter is my #1 choice.

Murphy may rise as the process goes on. I've seen some rumblings of Carter having the dreaded character issues (though that's been disputed by others).

My first thought was James Harrison with the Steelers.

Apparently Wilson is playing in the Rams game. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.  It's going to be tough for the Rams to win either of the last two games even with Seattle freefalling so this Denver game is huge for draft position, to say the least.

It could be an interesting dilemma in the final week between rooting for a playoff spot or better draft position depending on how things shake out. Obviously playoffs is the higher priority but it'll just be interesting to see where positioning stands at this point.

I would hope it's NOT Harrison as he didn't become effective until he was 28 or 29... He dominated for about 5+ years... but I'm hoping Anderson (I mean, if we draft him...) could give more than that...

Part of me wants us to face the Vikings. But I also worry they may want revenge. But of all the teams playing in week one, they may be the easiest to beat. But winning in Carolina would have Ford Field rocking against the Bears.

I think the Vikings are frauds. How many one-possession wins do you get before the NFL Gods order you to go 2-15 next season? Not to count chickens before they are hatched, but I would want to play them just because I think we are simply better than them. Doesn't mean we would win a road game in a playoff environment, but I think playing the Vikings would give us the best shot at getting that 30-year playoff win drought monkey off our back.

From that point on, if they do advance, who cares? That's some serious house money. I'm not sure we are better than any of the 49ers, Cowboys, or Eagles, but any given Sunday; to be the best ya gotta beat the best; cut me, Mick; so on and so forth.

Wherever the Rams pick falls - between 4 and 8 let's say... - NO one wants to draft Bryce Young because of size concerns so he falls to our pick... Do we draft him as a wildcat QB (can run/ pass/ or even run a pass route as a WR...) for the next two years and then decide at that point whether or not to draft a franchise QB or Bryce has bulked up enough we feel comfortable relying on him as the "franchise"?

Right now, I prefer having James Houston as a 6th round pick than worrying about drafting Anderson up high in the first. Houston is a tasmanian devil, he's a really rare dude. Stroud looked very good, and I think he's easily QB2 in this draft. I think it's possible that the Lions will draft a QB in the first, which would solve 2 issues; long term stability at the position, and talent for a backup in case something happens to Goff. It would be either Stroud or Richardson for me, Richardson might be the most talented "freak" in this draft.
