They will also have about 40 million in cap space next year. This draft looks like a deep draft. And their system is loaded. Haven't we heard the same thing a few times over the last several seasons? 1 Quote
Hongbit Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 I assume they will be bringing Edvinsson and Soderblom up once all the smoke clears from the deadline. Time to give them some more experience. Quote
Shinzaki Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 System graduated Seider, Bergrren (sort of) Soderblom and Raymond...guys like Mazur, Wallinder, Kasper and Edvinsson are now waiting in the wings along with Lombardi, Hanas..etc... System seems a lot healthier than it was when Yzerman took over Quote
Shinzaki Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 Adam Erne has been recalled and will play tonight...Vrana will sit Quote

gehringer_2 Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 Yzerman has a lot of confidence in his - or his system's - ability to find talent in the draft. He's sort of the exact anti-Holland in that regard. Quote

I've really come around on Suter this season, I think he'd be a really good get for a contending team with PK issues. I never really noticed how good he is on the penalty kill but he's really been great this season. Quote
digitalpigsmuggler Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 Bert was going to walk. Yzwrman got the market rate for a rental player with upside. Quote

He's sort of in that mid teir with Fabbri and Kubalik (who's really come down to earch since the hot start), a cut above the Zadinas and Velenos.... Quote

True, but GM's talk themselves into these guys all the time! Quote
buddha Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 if he can get anything of value for suter, he really is a genius. Quote

Jason_R Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 Well, I guess the dorks on Reddit will have to quit talking about “2z” now. It’s a shame he wasn’t dealt last season, but how could Stevie know he was going to have such bad puck luck this season? It always seemed that this season was too early to expect a playoff run, but I’m not SY. Quote

I am hungry to win too, but it was the right decision to sell. Quote
Shinzaki Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 SY has the ammo to make a swing for the fences offer for an established younger star from outside the org or near the top of this years draft. No one is trading the rights to Bedard...but maybe Fantilli or Will Smith? Quote

Time to do something big next offseason and be in an absolute playoff run next year. We keep waiting and waiting and waiting (on all of our teams). Time to be bold. Quote

1984Echoes Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 Just a good enough backup... Hellberg is fine short term... For the future: I don't know if that's Ned, or Cossa gets better (at least 2-3 years away...?) or...? Quote
gehringer_2 Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 LOL - we won't hold it against anyone who thought we could get two 1sts for Bert. The wings apparently also picked up some of his remaining salary..... Quote
1984Echoes Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 Vrana dumped for a bucket of pucks. To the Blues for a 27 y.o. AHL Center and a 2025 7th... Quote
Tigerbomb13 Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 I’m not totally sure what Vrana did, but whatever it was made his relationship with the Wings irreparable. His days were numbered. Quote

His days were numbered. Weird case. If you really want an off the wall speculation I suppose the reverse could also be true - that Vrana holds it against the Wings that they put him into oversight and has made it clear he doesn't want to play for them and is refusing to cooperate with the team. The way Lalonde talked about him not playing in the system - and then the other night again saying he was sitting because Lalonde needed someone who would play in the system - made it sound like Vrana was determined to just to freelance in whatever ice time he got. well whatever, I guess that closes the book on a bad move for SY. Even for Mantha that nets out pretty poorly. Well, you can't win 'em all. Quote
