yes, they are still young.  but that excuse is almost over.  you think you'd see some real growth by now if they were ever going to be anything more than solid third/fourth line players.

 

out of that group I think Rasmussen holds his own as a legit NHL player most nights. Lindstrom - not good, Hronek, not bad at some aspects but such a terrible passer - gives the puck directly back on his outlet so often that it practically negates any good dirty work he does down low.

legit third line player, which is probably his ceiling.  but ras has shown improvement over before when he was borderline unplayable.

i still think the biggest problem for this club is defense.  getting the puck and moving it out of their own zone.  theyre very poor at that.

Wings come out a little flat - give up a goal at about the 90 sec mark. Sort of right the ship a little and the 1st ends tied 1-1 on Raymond's first tally of the season.

good win considering how many players they are missing.

suter drives me nuts with the missed opportunities.  zadina was nothing, as usual.

larkin left seider out to dry on the goal.  seider with the pinch and larkin with a half assed cover for him.

raymond with a good game.  was close to 3 or 4 goals tonight.

And the game was over at 9:25p.  That’s a good 10-15 minutes quicker than normal

wings getting embarassed a bit.  cant get possession and look so slow compared to buffalo.

not that buffalo looks great either.  but they can at least posses the puck for more than three seconds.

Seems like a lot of the goals we give up are after we have a chance to clear it but decide to try and possess the puck inside our own zone instead.

When the Wings start to stuggle, the wheels tend to come off.

Wings fight back to 4-3, but nearing the end of a penalty kill Ned lets in a softie through the legs. Backbreaker.

A lot of talk this summer as to which team in the Atlantic is most improved - Buffalo, Ottawa or Detroit.  Only one game, in Buffalo, but Sabres clearly outplayed the Wings most of tonight. 6-3 now.

First big test for Lalonde now. Wings get outshot 19-2 in 3rd, totally lost their composure. Lose 8-3.

its tough for them without bert, vrana, and even ras.  but to me its still the defense that's just terrible.  maata's been ok, but lindstrom and hagg are really bad.  seider hasnt been good so far.  chairot has been decent but he's a pretty limited player.  they just cant get the puck and posses it when other teams press them.
