Media Meltdown and also Media Bias 101

Exactly, that guy didn't die - and in an incredible ass-kissing move actually apologized TO Cheney.

Also, what does Dick Cheney shooting the guy in the face have to do with a member of the media showing their ass in this particular situation?

The only way it seems relevant is to interject a whataboutism. Which should be taken as an endorsement of the writer's comment IMO

SNL definitely would go after 'the right' person involved with this situation.  In the case of Alec Baldwin, I definitely believe his outward anti-Trump stance over the years isn't necessarily giving him a pass on this, but is allowing time for the facts to come out, which so far, appear to show the actor should not be responsible for determining if a weapon is hot and should rely on the experts.   He is also the producer, so he still might have some culpability though.

Now imagine Don Jr on some set, filming the cheesiest possible ad for his dad's 2024 POTUS run and the same incident happens.  The twitterverse would absolutely push the media into a 'how is he to blame' mindset and you'd hear stories of his hunting / gun usage. Because a person died, maybe we don't see SNL jump on it right away, but absolutely they would be tracking it and just waiting to get something in.

In thinking further, maybe not, just talking about guns might create an unsafe space for the SNL crew and thus keep it out.

Wouldn't you agree, by that same token, that if it were Don Jr. and people were cracking jokes hours after someone died, the Archies of the world would be crying foul?

The right behavior shouldn't be predicated on situation or who was involved... that's the biggest issue I have with it.

Clearly this was a total fail in safety procedures across several lines. Dave Halls, Ms. Gutierrez Reed, and Baldwin were all negligent in this tragedy.

From the WSJ:

”Every time we hand off a gun on set to talent, we show the chamber, bore, and magazine,” said Chandler Cornblum, Vice President of Movie Armaments Group, a Toronto-based weapons supplier. “And the actor has to signal they accept the gun is empty, only then do I hand the gun off.”

Obviously this didn’t happen. All three aforementioned people on the set, in one way or another, contributed through negligence at the very least, to Halyna Hutchins death.

Absolutely

Absolutely again.

I spent most of my working life in hazardous environments. Safety is culture, and the enforcement of the culture depends completely on the immediate local management. In the end the people closest to the accident will take the fall for it, but a movie set is the director's world and the ultimate and absolute responsibility is his for allowing a hazard tolerant culture to live on his sets.

The above statement doesn't put negligence on the actor per se.  We don't know if Baldwin was instructed of this process.  Is this an industry standard or just something this group does?  Lots of questions still.

Same article from above (WSJ-Wednesday, October 27, 2021-print version)

“Under industry protocols, any gun used for a film isn’t supposed to be passed from one person to another but rather transferred by the armorer,  according to multiple armorers and movie industry crew veterans. An armorer should be in charge of the weapon at all times, and should give it directly to an actor, according to the people who have worked on film sets.”

A whole lot of people should, indeed, to be walking the plank on this one. Tragic…. But more than that, negligence that may in fact be criminal for some involved.

That whole industry needs to stop being coddled when it comes to safety on the sets. The stars are usually protected somewhat, but the regular Joe’s who work on the sets etc. seem to be mere fodder. The powers that be couldn’t give a you-know-what about them.

It's absolutely fair to investigate what happened here and, as needed, for indictments to be issued.

In general, my initial post was more about partisan journalists who couldn't even wait for Halyna Hutchins to reach room temperature before making shitty political humor out of it. It's pretty ghoulish and cynical.

Amazing that the same people couldn't have cared less that 6  year olds were slaughtered are suddenly all about gun safety because it might give them the opportunity to pin it on an actor who mocked the person they worship.

Yeah.  Why didn’t the victim arm herself?  Seems we need more guns on movie sets now to prevent this.
