Seeing how Bluesky is headquartered in America, and how it was developed in parallel with twitter by Jack Dorsey, how long will it be before Leon sues Bluesky for infringement of its IP and demands a court either orders it shut down, or rules that Leon is the rightful owner of its IP and all attendant assets and must be handed over to him? I'm not saying I believe this will happen, I'm just speculating on when he'll try it.

Bluesky was a part of Twitter. It was sold off when Musk purchased Twitter.

Bluesky is built on a different protocol.

Check out the fediverse, that's what they call it.   Its related to how you can use your URL as your @ 

It's designed so one person like Leon can't take it over

Paul Frazee is on bsky and he's the lead developer and is super awesome, he tries to interact as much as possible with the plebs.  He bs'd yesterday something to the effect of the fediverse will long outlive bluesky

that said the bsky UI is super twitter-like so there may be some aspects that could be in the realm of IP theft from my stayed in a holiday inn perspective

I don’t think Elon will try and sue them any time soon.  He will tell everyone Bluesky are nothing and X has record numbers.  Behind the scenes, he will increase the royalties they pay out to his blue checkmarkers because it really is a threat.

As someone who avoiding getting a Twitter account long ago, before Musk turned it into a propaganda tool, I am curious if getting a Bluesky account makes sense for me. As Hong noted, this forum allows me access to lots of tweets and now whatever the equivalent Bluesky content is.

I don’t need or want lots of additional social media in my life. I assume there are user settings to keep from getting daily notifications and other crap. If I had an account but didn’t do much with it, is it worth it other than to show support for the people who don’t embrace fascism? Not that that isn’t of value.

I think he can do both, but I would agree that if he is planning on the former, he will certain do the latter.

Bluesky is pretty much what I thought, a far left version of Twitter. They labeled the Chicago Public Safety account and Brianna Wu, who is literally a trans democratic operative but is pro Israel, as far right accounts.

While I'm happily overwhelmed with how much bluesky has grown in just a few weeks and how many familiar accounts I'm finding there, I can't help but wonder if this mass exodus (X odus?) had taken place when Elon took over if we might not be in a much better place right now.

When Musk took over, Bluesky was invitation only. People wanted to go there but couldn't. Threads had a huge explosion when it launched, but they purposely suppress news and politics, so it's basically Instagram without pictures.
