And now comes the To unfriend, or not to unfriend portion of my personal history. A person I originally met in a fitness group is now posting tweets by Mush telling those of us who don't like the outcome of this election to just stop paying attention to the news, so that all we'll see is lower prices, lower crime, more jobs, etc. Don't even get me started on my Drumpf loving cousins.....

30 day mute is a beautiful thing. Also, you can hide their comments so you and anybody not friends with them won't see them.

That's why I do with my family members. With others I may just interact with them in the fitness group.

It's odd how none of them acted hateful until Drumpf entered the political arena-before that we just disagreed on many issues. I guess it's possible the ugliness was there before....

No no no, you don’t understand. it’s clear as a bell to anyone paying that level of attention to it that Bluesky is pretty much what they thought, a far left version of Twitter, since, apparently, Brainnotonyet speaks for Bluesky and all its users’ accounts.

So, the centrists and rule of law enthusiasts among us citizens will need to build a new media.  Bsky is but a first step.  I will not tolerate:

  • "vaccine skeptic" as a descriptor of RFK Jr.
  • "controversial views about Russia" as a descriptor of Tulsi Gabbard
  • "outspokenly anti-woke" for what Pete Hegseth is promoting about females in the military

Matt Gaetz is likely to be voted down because the Congress pure hates his ass so he doesn't matter.

My spouse said she read a theory about the Gaetz nomination. It was made to give Trump cover for a few others, knowing it will cause enough controversy to kill the nomination.

My theory is they knew the report was coming so it gives his cover to resign and quash it.

He's definitely that.  I think Gabbard is as well.

Then there is this

Trump's people might be floating this court-martial thing to distract everyone from his Cabinet picks. Maybe. But even as a head-fake, it's a direct attack on the norms of American civil-military relations and a reminder that Trump wants loyalty to him, not the Constitution.

A bit of context

If this MSNBC story about courts-martial is confirmed, I'm begging people - especially writers and reporters - do not fall for the Trump line that this is about Afghanistan. This is about Trump seeking revenge on the people who woudn't him do things like shoot American protesters.

IDK how good that strategy is. Once you block one the momentum to block others might might actually build instead of subside.

Bluesky pet peeve, my first one...

People screenshotting tweets from Elon/Trump and posting to Bluesky to dunk on them. It defeats the Purpose!

I follow a lot of NASA sites on X, so far only their main account has transitioned to Bluesky, they've only made one post 6 days ago.  Will be interesting to see waht they do given how ingrained they are with Elon.  For reference on X, there's a NASA history page, a Johnson Space Center page, all the satellite centers like Glenn, Armstrong, Langley.... as well as some of the astronauts themselves.  Will they be told not to do that by Elon?

Add Wallops Island to your Musk feed. They haven't transitioned yet either

I’m still using it but I find myself unfollowing accounts each time I go on there. Basically anything political except for certain right leaning people whose opinions I still value as a sanity check.  I also still find value in some of the entertainment based people and such. But I’m limiting my engagement.  I think I replied once to a post since the election.

I have been able follow some accounts that I value who have Bsky accounts in the few days that I've had both, but kinda realized today that it wasn't worth holding onto.

I had more or less logged off the past few days anyway and didn't feel the desire to go back

Pre Elon, every several months I'd focus on which accounts I want to drop/add.  I had turned it into a great source of current events, politics, and sports, but needed a little bit of maintenance to keep it up.  It's been damn near impossible to keep it like it was.  I tried early on, but there is no point.  I still use it a bit for current events and a quick skim to see what MAGA world is freaking out about at any given time, but that's about it.

I've been using Bluesky for quite awhile, with more users, it could be a replacement.  Unfortunately I feel like it's going to be liberal Twitter and Twitter with be maga twitter.

The key for them will be to provide a less cluttered, reliable and more enjoyable environment for non-political information. If they do that, sports and current events will draw the wider audience and they can prevent falling into an echosphere trap. Right now they have a opportunity to do that since Elon is currently so fixed on beating everyone about the head with his personally curated nonsense in the other place.
