The 118th United States Congress

Seems like its really a battle for the soul of the party. The MAGA faction has to either force their opponents to fold, thereby showing who's in charge, or they'll destroy the party trying to assert themselves. They have no interest in actually governing, this is all just an exercise in asserting dominance. I predict the "moderates" will eventually fold and MAGA will win once again. But so far they're holding the line.

Not a serious political party lol

It will be interesting if they get Emmer's name to the floor if the Dems will decide to put him in. It's hard to believe they could do any better than Emmer unless some grand coalition could bring someone in who is not currently a member - which is a very long shot.

It's a battle for the soul of the party, but this whole exercise of going back and forth is just endless cycle of the one thing that defines this Republican Party: grievance.

Grievance is to the Republican Party what OxyC is to an opioid addict.... it's all consuming, self destructive, and the rest of us all get to live the consequences of their dysfunction.

The moderates could, possibly, fold not to MAGA but to bipartisanship and vote for Jeffries.

It would be an FU to Trump & MAGA (who deserve it); and probably an FU to their careers. But in the name of the Constitution of the United States of America, they should do it.

Dems could have signaled a willingness to put Emmer in, but it appears they are playing for a bigger win. Hope they don't overplay their hand.

this is such a weird time. In the past a situation like this would get resolved by a group bolting their party, but the tribalism is just too strong today.

The Dems can send any signals they want...

It means nothing until the Republicans FIRST state: "Let's talk." Nothing happens until then.

The only choice the Dems have, at this point, is to vote 100% Jeffries.

They get nothing anyways... so just wait to see if the Republicans will eventually talk to them (0% chance. At this point in time. Republicans already stated "We don't talk with the Dems until we hit rock bottom").

Have they hit rock bottom yet?

They have to fold because otherwise, they might well be murdered by a MAGA voter.

Who won’t get moderates to vote for her, either.

Looks like the Republicans have checkmated themselves.

People keep framing this in terms of who will fold or not, but this is an extremely divided caucus working with a 4-vote majority. And it's a caucus brimming with grievances between factions that aren't likely to be bridged. A bunch of them are tired of this process and don't understand why McCarthy was even ousted in the first place.

It's an extremely tough needle to thread for any of these candidates going forward.
