mtutiger Posted December 30, 2022 Author Posted December 30, 2022 Wasn't expecting it from Wasserman of all people, but finally someone in the MSM isn't letting the R's off the hook for their own failures in this saga. Quote
mtutiger Posted January 3, 2023 Author Posted January 3, 2023 Happy 118th Congress! McCarthy still doesn't have 218 votes. Quote
mtutiger Posted January 3, 2023 Author Posted January 3, 2023 The party has spent years entertaining clowns like this, dating back to Obama's presidency. This spectacle is fully deserved. Quote
oblong Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Justin Amash has thrown his hat into the ring. What's the downside for democrats in that scenario? Anyone who speaks to a "return to normalcy" should consider it. Quote

Anyone who speaks to a "return to normalcy" should consider it. I suspect we're looking at a different speaker by the end of this, maybe Steve Scalise. I don't really see any downside for the Ds here... this is the GOP's mess, at least in the short term they will have to deal with it. Quote
pfife Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 (edited) I'm officially announcing that I am running for Speaker of the House. Middle management is great relevant experience. Please clap. Edited January 3, 2023 by pfife 3 2 Quote
CMRivdogs Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Republicans in disarray....Kevin has become a Trumpublican steer (neutered bull). I would love to see Democrats vote against every candidate they put up. Cast votes for Kinzinger all day long Quote

Cast votes for Kinzinger all day long I'm OK with them proposing someone like Fred Upton - but only after multiple failed ballots and a **** ton of concessions. This is the GOP's mess, they should have to sort it out. 1 Quote
CMRivdogs Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 McCarthy has already given away the Republic to a handful of crazies. He should just tell them FU and put them on minor committees. Quote
oblong Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 I'm here for it.... it's going to be fun to watch. 2 Quote
mtutiger Posted January 3, 2023 Author Posted January 3, 2023 This is being reported as if it's somehow effective, but is it? The Freedom Caucus types whole brand is their infinite shamelessness and constant doubling down.... "taking them to the woodshed" and sick burns maybe strokes some egos, but it seems like a strategy doomed to fail. Quote
CMRivdogs Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 McCarthy is facing the same problems that Boehner and Ryan faced as Speaker. The crazies have gotten worse and Kevin does not have the cojones for the job. Quote
oblong Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 His whiny voice and demeanor is not intimidating in the least. He is not a heavy presence. Doesn't command leadership or a presence. He looks small. 1 Quote
pfife Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 This is such a glorious mess of shitheads. 1 Quote
pfife Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 MCARTY can still win if Mike Pence has the courage to do what's right and also this is all just a distraction from hunters laptop Quote

And he's not trustworthy and they all know it, which means no-one in the mainstream of the conference likes him enough for his support from the middle to be strong enough to force the margins along. i.e the support his does have is shallow. 1 Quote
CMRivdogs Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Do it, the Republicans will forever be the party of NO Quote
pfife Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Gates said there was little difference between Pelosi and McCarthy lol Quote
oblong Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 People like Gaetz attain more value being the outlier rather than 1 of 222. As long as he's electable in his district he doesn't need to care about anything else. Quote

The way I understand it that would be the same as abstaining. The Speaker needs a majority of voting members. Not voting would reduce the numbers of votes needed to win. Quote
