A player awarded a salary in arbitration gets a non-guaranteed contract. He is entitled to 30 days termination pay if released 15 days prior to opening day, 45 days termination pay if less than 15 days to Opening Day, contract becomes guaranteed on the opening day roster.

I am unclear on if this is the case for deals that avoid arbitration.

Just confirmed that pre-arb deals are also non-guaranteed subject to the same termination pay terms.
