Detroit Lions Offseason Thread 2023

Based on what we know about Holmes and Campbell, the Lions won't dip heavily into free agency/trade market and will continue to build primarily through the draft. The one splurge I can see is possibly Wagner if he's willing to come here to bring in a high quality vet that seems like a culture fit but other than that, I don't see them in any of the top free agents or Ramsey.

i think you might need one of romeo okwara or harris.  probably okwara.  if not, you should replace him.

houston doesnt look like an every down player and they could use a guy who can be strong on the edge against the run.

okwara might be too expensive to keep or he might not be as good of a player coming off injury, but if he's healthy he might be one they keep around.

If they draft Wilson or Murphy I believe that changes immediately...

Isn't that Paschal? Strong on the edge against the run? Houston is likely to be a pass rushing specialist. I would probably prefer to keep Okwara based on talent. Okwara's contract is off the books after this year so really keeping Okwara doesn't do much for signing free agents. They just take a lower cap hit this year.

Whaaa??? Big if true. I heard speculation it was spinal fusion surgery and return to action was doubtful at best. Would be fantastic if that is wrong.

I'm not holding my breath that he makes the 53-man roster this fall, but getting anything at all out of him would be huge. The position doesn't have much at all in terms of depth, so he'll definitely get his chances in training camp if he can go.

The literal first line in my post was that they probably wouldn't be big players in free agency. To which you replied that it wasn't based on fact at all.  They would use up their cap space on resigning their own guys, and obviously wouldn't be backloading a bunch of contracts to fit guys in this year.

 

 

 

FWIW, I very much read your original referenced post as say the Lions wouldn't be big players because you felt they couldn't afford to bring in big names with their cap situation.

He's 40 now, so he would be a band aid until we can find a long-term solution. Not opposed though if someone reaches for Moody.

He's not a long term solution, but if the Lions have aspirations of winning the division, I would like a reliable kicker.

for even more context, when i said the eagles were going to be really good before the season i was mocked here.  MOCKED!  lol.

eagles winning thr nfc east at +400 was almost as easy to pick as the bears under 6.5 wins.

(pay no attention to that colts division winner bet...i dont know where that came from.  must have been hacked that day.)

I don't recall mocking at all. I recall everyone saying the Eagles were talented and it depended on whether Hurts was the real deal.

Prove it. I don't think I ever said I wasn't impressed with them nor did I mock you for saying they would win the division. The question was Hurts and I seen to recall you not thinking of highly of hurts.

I definitely remember there being a ton of buzz around the Eagles before the season started, I remember when they announced ahead of time the huge attendance at Ford Field for the game some(me) speculated that part of that may have been due to all the buzz around the Eagles.

first of all, prive that i said you mocked me.  not sure why you assumed i was talking about you and honestly, it was a joke.  

if you want to see people say the eagles were overrated, check the game thread.

For the record I still do think the Eagles are overrated, a really good team but I don't think they are as good as their record and season ended up being. Kudos for them for doing it but I think they got a very fortunate schedule and circumstances that aided it.

i think the eagles were the second best team in a weak nfc last year.  the niners were better but they lost all their qbs.  eagles a close second, imo.

I think that too but I think that says more about the NFC than anything.

You specifically said I said I wasn't impressed with them. I did look at the beginning of the game thread and one person said the Eagles were the 2nd best team we'll play all year, and one said they were overrated because of Hurts. You said they were good and literally no one mocked you.
