No, San Francisco announced he was going to be ready for training camp. We'll see when he gets his team physical before he signs the contract. Teams are usually pretty careful signing players coming off of injury. Quote
MichiganCardinal Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 This is why I think Jamaal re-signs sometime this week. It’s not a RB friendly market that justifies a team outbidding others for an RB2. Someone would really need to fall in love with him. Quote
MichiganCardinal Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 The secondary might just be alright next season. Walker is looking like a man on a damn mission. Quote

Saying he’s on track to be ready for training camp is way different than saying it was a minor injury and won’t have any impact on him going forward. I hope it’s the case because he’s going to be a great pickup if he stays healthy. I have my doubts though. Edited March 15, 2023 by Hongbit Quote
Stanley70 Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 It looks like they may be rebuilding the secondary room as quickly as they did the WR room. Quote

buddha Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 david montgomery is a good back and more talented than jamaal williams. 1 Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted March 15, 2023 Author Posted March 15, 2023 (edited) WOW!!! I cannot say I saw this move coming. Montgomery is only 25 years old so he should have a fair amount of gas still left in the tank. I guess he'll be our RB1 instead of Swift. Edited March 15, 2023 by Mr.TaterSalad Quote

I think Montgomery is likely expected to be a slightly younger and slightly better version of Jamaal Williams at the price point they were comfortable spending. Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted March 15, 2023 Author Posted March 15, 2023 Does signing Montgomery stop the Bijan Robinson at #18 talk? Quote
NYLion Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 This is a tough one for me. I think Montgomery is the better player and the much younger player as well but damn I loved Jamaal the person and culture fit. Probably good from a football standpoint but from a fan feeling standpoint, it kind of sucks. Quote

Motown Bombers Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 It will be interesting to see what Jamaal Williams gets. Maybe he overplayed his hand. He's probably more valuable to the Lions than any other team. Quote
MichiganCardinal Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 I think Montgomery will take the role of goal-line / 3rd down / downhill between the tackles back, while Swift remains (or Bijan becomes) the newer generation backfield threat. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 Montgomery put up similar numbers to Williams behind a much worse offensive line. I like this move from a football perspective and I'll get over losing Williams. 1 Quote
Tenacious D Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 Really hope Jamaal doesn’t go to the Bears. Quote
