I think that would be the smart move. Obviously Swift isn't getting the 2nd contract now (which we kind of knew already anyway) so might as well get a little value out of him and take the cheap contract rookie.

This is how I feel.   Montgomery also seems like Jamaal.  His teammates love him and he’s been a fan favorite with a super positive attitude.

Also hoping Jamaal doesn't land with Chicago, but I think he's the rare guy who would still get a good bit of pregame applause from the Ford Field crowd upon his return.

Anzalone contract notwithstanding, this has been a good free agency for Holmes. He has been more aggressive than past offseasons but not reckless.

Kind of an odd replacement for Montgomery. Homer has only started two games in his career with Seattle and has three career TDs.

jamaal williams gets what the oline gives you and almost nothing more.  

montgomery will get you more.

I also have to imagine that on top of having a bad offensive line, teams stacked the line to stop the run against the Bears since they ran the ball so much and no one was afraid of Fields throwing the ball.

Lions have to trade Swift now so Montgomery can wear #32.   Talk about an awkward situation for the head equipment guy.

everyone hates this signing, but i dont mind it.  i think montgomery is a good back and the lions want to get off the bus running the ball.

People don't like it because they have an emotional attachment to Jamaal Williams. He's like the Curtis Granderson of the Lions. Montgomery is the better player, and as with Granderson, people will get over it.

I haven't seen a ton of football people hate on the signing. A lot of casual fans will hate it because they loved Jamaal, which, fair. We all loved Jamaal and he's irreplaceable... I think there is a lot of upside with Montgomery as a replacement though.

Next on the list is either re-signing Chark or signing his replacement. I would also like the Lions to consider signing Robbie Gould as I'm not confident in Badgely.

Walter Football hates it so much he gave it a grade of Millen! But he gave the Anzalone signing a B+. 

Chicago fans seem upset to lose Montgomery, and I like that Holmes was disciplined and held his ground with Willams.

Bears fans are the worst. They think their team is so good and better than the Lions despite finishing 6 games behind the Lions.

Montgomery was near top of the league in broken tackles, his OL was near the bottom of the league in protecting him from contact after scrimmage. Just 1.19 yards before contact for his carries.
