Realistically, the earliest they compete for a World Series is probably 2023, and Chris' comments may be a reflection of that.

Overall, Chris' comment about providing Al/AJ the resources they think they need is a more aggressive posture than I can ever remember him taking. But now he needs to back it up....

That is not realistic at all actually. Unless Chris is going to start tossing out money like his daddy, there are to many holes on the roster even if they sign a top level SS.

I missed this the first time around—maybe you all knew this already—but I didn't realize the AJ got Manager of the Year votes:

Sure, it's hardly any, but it's some. And it's the first time since 2011 that the manager of an American League team that finished under .500 during a full season got MoY votes.

I think Correa is still number one on Detroit's list but they don't want to bid against themselves either.

ESPN took a survey of 20 major league executives, as to where each suspected the "hot commodity" shortstops will land. They said:

Javy Baez: Mets 10, Astros 3, Rangers 3, Cubs 2, Mariners 2
Carlos Correa: Tigers 10, Rangers 6, Yankees 3, Astros 1
Corey Seager: Yankees 12, Tigers 4, Rangers 2, Dodgers 2
Marcus Semien: Mariners 8, Tigers 5, Rangers 4, Blue Jays 3
Trevor Story: Rangers 8, Tigers 5, Astros 3, Yankees 2, Mariners 2

I can't begin to tell everyone just how thrilled that I am, none of them projected Javy Baez coming to the D.

They asked the same group:

Which shortstop will get the biggest deal -- and for how much?

Carlos Correa (unanimous) -- Average answer: 10 years, $304 million

This was a unanimous choice, perhaps because he's the youngest of the group. Though he's had some injuries, voters overlooked any of those issues while offering up huge contract numbers. The highest was $350 million over 12 years, while the lowest came in at eight years, $250 million.

well if Correa is at SS, Semien is at 2B, Seager at 3b, and Story at DH ... that's OK with me.

A little surprised at the vote for Baez returning to the Mets, both because he's going to be very expensive for a 2B, and because you'd think Javy would rather go where he can play short.

10 + 4 + 5 + 5 = 20?

Imagine being an Orioles fan and your team has done nothing for years and they are not even mentioned in any possible trades or free agents.    i guess we were there the last few years, but it seems like the orioles never even try anymore.  Some kid steals a home run ball and Yankee Stadium and they just quit.

They have some prospects. It won't be long for them.

They swept the Tigers the last time the Tigers made the playoffs.

I have always disliked the Orioles because they were unbeatable in the early 70s when I was first really getting into the game.  Palmer-McNally-Cuellar

Mike Cueller was a really good pitcher....sad that I just missed his prime...I was born in 1970 and started watching baseball in 1977.
