SoCalTiger
Based on everything Al has said "no drunken sailor" and "measured approach" Baez seems a fit and as we have all noticed Al basically tells everyone what he is trying to do. I am perfectly fine with Baez and sure it will be 6 years or less and 150 or less. Might even be 6/150 with an opt out after year 2 or 3. Not Correa but a HUGE lift for our team all in the same. Exactly... likely means the Mets are out of the running. Less competition. Doesn't mean they'll get him, but I think the likelihood just increased a decent amount

Tenacious D
Hopefully someone with the Tigers is floating the Baez rumor to get the attention of the other agents. The Tigers have to be one of the top 3 destinations for the free agent SS, based on payroll flexibility and need.
Tiger337
They could Escobar at 3B and Baez at 2B depending on whether expect McNeil to bounce back next year.

mtutiger
Now this is an interesting theory. Throughout this offseason, it really hasn't been clear that anyone is more interested in Correa's services than the Tigers. Rangers maybe? chasfh
I would like to sign Baez for five years, which probably means the Tigers will sign him for seven.

casimir
Correa from Houston to Texas is interesting to me, although only because of any rivalry that might exist between the two.

Tiger337
I follow Frommer on Twitter. He appears to know something about prospects, but I don't get the impression that he is any kind of insider.

In terms of Correa, a lot of time has been spent on the Tigers willingness to spend $300+ mil, not much has been spent talking about whether others are willing to give $300+ mil for Correa's services. Do we really know that others will at this point? Edited November 26, 2021 by mtutiger

Do we really know that others will at this point? since when have baseball owners never not spent huge money on star players? its the middle class that are getting squeezed. the star guys almost always get paid. correa isnt likely to take less than lindor. i doubt baez takes less than what the cubs were supposedly offering him. But as of the moment, based on reporting, who is the team aside from the Tigers likely to give Correa more than 300 million? Can you name the team that is sitting out there who will give him Lindor money? I don't have an answer for either of those questions at the moment. Doesn't mean they don't exist, we just don't know Edited November 27, 2021 by mtutiger

Texas is the only one I see who would do it for Correa. Maybe. It just seems like this is all part of a negotiation. And the Tigers, for their part, may just be trying to get the best possible deal for one of these guys versus just going hog wild and giving Lindor money away without doing due diligence. We don't know. I feel like people just see Jon Heyman tweets and lose their minds without understanding that there are motives to any leak. RatkoVarda
Baez may realistically realize that he is the 5th best SS out there (Correa-Seagar-Story-Semien-Baez) and maybe he does not want to be under the gun in Feb as there is a mad scramble to find a team. So can you get him now, for 5/125, or less? Baez carries a different type of risk.
