I'm part of a movie facebook page and someone mentioned The Untouchables.... I quoted Andy Garcia's line to Connery when they first met "it's much better than you, you stinking irish pig".  Even had it in quotes.  They flagged it and gave me a warning.

Meadows has a huge platoon split the last few years, to the point where he will probably need to be sat against left handers. He pretty much only played left field or DH in TB also. I am not sure how viable he is in CF or RF.

TB must have felt they could find someone who could replicate his value and decided carrying that contract wasn't a good value for them. Plus the received something for him.

It's a good deal for the Tigers but Meadows looks similar to Badoo to me.

This is a good point, not necessarily a good or bad thing but you rarely do hear about the Tigers "being close to acquiring" or "in talks with" when it comes to players the Tigers actually acquire. It's like all the sudden you just hear the news that they acquired a guy. This goes back to the Dombrowski days as well, it's like out of nowhere we would get a Sanchez, Price, Iglesias etc.

Now there have been times where people speculated that we might be interested in somebody and we got them but that was usually just people throwing out names wildly and they just so happen to come to fruition.

It comes off as a "I pay attention most to the Tigers and don't pay attention to other teams so I'm going to say the other teams don't do that."

Off the top of my head the White Sox and Braves are two teams that have gone Ninja style. Did anybody see any Semien to the Rangers happening?

My wife and I have been to numerous minor league games over the years. You never really know how many players you see in the minors that will eventually make the bigs.

I go back and scour Austin Meadows track record out of curiosity. I didn’t realize he had committed to Clemson before opting to sign with Pittsburgh.
Cutting to the chase here, we saw a game in Charleston, WV on August 5, 2014. That’s 2014 folks. We travelled up to follow the Asheville Tourists on a road trip. The West Virginia Power was the Low A affiliate of the Pirates at the time. I remembered the trip well and several details but didn’t find a box score on-line anywhere. So, I emailed an acquaintance with the Asheville Tourists this morning and asked if in his archives he had the box score of August 5, 2014. In less than 30 minutes he sent it to me. Austin Meadows made four plate appearances in that game. He was 1-3 with a BB. He batted third in the lineup that day. After going down the Power’s lineup I was in for another surprise. The number two hitter for West Virginia that day was none other than an aspiring Jacoby Jones!

it does seem odd that the fences are not deep and obviously there is no wind - but it consistently seem to have a low park factor. Do the baseballs get soggy in Tampa?

Conversely, Comerica Park has deep fences, but had average home run factors for many years.  The last couple years, the home run factors have been down, so maybe it's finally playing to its size.

It would be interesting to check the weather history. Cool summers have a huge effect. We were in Minneapolis the year Target opened and everyone was getting paranoid because no-one was hitting HRs, but it turned out it was just an oddly cold year. Ever since that one cold summer Target has played more or less average  - nothing like that first yr.

If I had to guess from the Rays standpoint... Paredes has always been an analytical darling and he's still very young. They probably view Meadows as a DH, particularly with their options in the OF. He'll also be getting more expensive the next few years and they have a tight budget.  It is a relatively valuable pick, too.

In his first 190 PAs in the majors his LD, barrels, and hard hit percentages are all extremely miniscule....I would imagine that Parades will start squaring up the ball at some point, and he should look like a fairly complete hitter, just not sure about the power.  It seems obvious enough that he also needs to drop some weight.

the other thing is that despite the fact that the whole purpose of a park factor is to normalize it out, it still seems park factors go up when your team has more HR hitters and the Tigers haven't recently.

Re the stadium in Minnesota...I recall hearing some discussion that the moisture drying out of the concrete was a factor in lowering the temperature on the field. Which in turn lead to fewer HR's  Sounds like barfly science...but...sometimes barflies are right

I sorta did, although I live in the DFW market and follow the Rangers somewhat by default

Meadows' LA has been kinda high, even for a FB hitter (20-24)...seems to me that power hitters maximize their overall output when they launch between 15-17.  He could stand to reduce the upper-cut somewhat, might help his splits too.

Lloyd will straighten out that swing...oh wait, Lloyd gone. 😁😁

What i find interesting is that the Tigers offer got the deal done. They must really like Paredes, or place a high value on that comp pick.

For a team like tampa is probably both. Parades still has upside and five years of control. But they also get to add a top 75 draft talent and the money that comes with it.

Iirc we either traded one or received one in the Sanchez deal with the Marlins way back when. I think that was the first year it started.

Edit: thinking back Im pretty sure we traded it cause I remember in Keith Law's write up(hates the Tigers) of the trade he was complaining about us getting the pick in the first place cause of our then high payroll.
