good for Boyd, SFG knows what they are doing, but he got more $ than I would have thought

Once the Tigers signed Peralta, it made me think Matt was off the table for them so maybe it figures his signing would come quick on the heals of Willie's. Wish him well, seems like a great guy, not sure he's a member of the rotation on a winning team though. Maybe he'll be better with the patched up arm.

Getting to the point where you are no longer interested in the guy who used to be the best you had is one of those things you find yourself both happy and sad to see.....:classic_sad:

Is there any way to watch these internet games on tv?

can you plug your TV  into your computer? Or if your TV has wireless or is on your router you may be able to cast the video to it from a phone.

Speaking of announcers Rod Allen just got hired by the Marlins to be their TV analyst.

Do the Marlins have any power hitters from middle America?

Chris Illitch doesn't need to make a profit.  None of the owners need to make a profit.  Baseball isn't any of the owners main source of revenue, it's mainly just a hobby.  As long as they can absorb the losses into their other businesses, they are fine.  The fact that fans are so worried about owners making a profit is mind-boggling to me.  Every single owner can afford to operate baseball at a loss.

Sure they can... but that doesn't mean most will.  The vast majority of sport's team owners do not dump money into the team without expect (at the very least) for it to break even on revenue.  Just because fans want owners to be willing to operate the team at a loss doesn't mean it'll happen.

It was a simple calculation. He was looking at 7 mil or so before the injury so 5 mil is prorated. I think the tigers should have done that and pieced it together until June in the 5th spot. Maybe Al will do better.

I’d suggest Madden, Kreidler and Daz for Montas.  Trading Manning makes no sense, as it creates another hole.

I think Kreidler is a keeper. I would hesitate before trading him. He very well could be our starting second baseman by year end/2023. Eventually paired with Santana after Baez leaves after 2023. We should just get the best possible free agent at this point as Montas will bring a haul at this point and Oakland, as someone noted, is a savvy trader.

I don't begrudge a business owner from wanting to make a profit.  Not at all.  They have the right to make as much money as they can.  That strategy is a business decision for them to make.  It would be a tough marketing sell and you would have to make sure you have a quality org to maintain competitiveness, and you have to balance the retention of those quality people as they want to win as well as simply do a good job and make money.

I care about spending to the degree it prevents the team from being flexible when it needs to adapt to circumstances.  I don't care about it lining an owner's pockets or whatever.  Their franchise is growing in value. They're ok.

Dealing for Oakland pitchers always concerns me, aside from their Park being so friendly the franchise seems to be pitching whisperers of sort. I don't have the evidence to back it up at this time but it "seems" like they decline after leaving there.

that park is both deep and has a massive amount of foul territory for pop-ups to be turned into outs

Oakland seems to always come out on top on finding talent, using them on inexpensive contracts and then trade them for high prospects. Yeah, I would worry about trading with them.

Their take for Chapman seems pretty underwhelming to me.  They can have Paredes, but they might want Kriedler, who's their type of guy who is close to MLB. Throw in Elvin Rodriguez and Clemens, and that should be enough for Montas.  Reese Olson is another I think they'd like.

Sure, as with everything, what is the cost to do business?  I'd rather move Paredes or Clemens than Kriedler, but that's just me.

I just think that Oakland would want Kriedler. I really like Montas.

Hmm, Pineda, if healthy (can be said for most of course) should help. Was thinking Zach, as he could also help mentor... I think other available starters still in FA are: Zach Davies, Chris Archer, Drew Smiley, Johnny Cueto, Garrett Richards, Chris Duffy (out like MBoyd til mid-season) JA Happ, Julio Teheran,  and Jose Urena. All with question marks and much is health. Zach Davies (unless I am unaware that he signed) is interesting because he can give innings.

No question, the Tigs need more depth at SP (IMHO) and someone here or even a trade may be coming here before long...

Yes, there are others to kick tires on, too.  Looks like Richards and Duffy are now off the board.  We've been through the Urena experiment already, although maybe he's willing to go the minor league route this year.

Imo, the Tigers are too left handed pitching wise, and they'll need right handers, especially to beat the White Sox.

I don't think they are in a practical position to beat the White Sox this season.  I think they need pitchers to get through this season, right handed or left handed.  Mize & Skubal have not gone over 150 IP yet.  Manning is still questionable.  All three are on the upswing of their careers, so that is helpful, but that's over half of the rotation that's pretty young and still proving themselves.  But adding Montas isn't going to be enough to get them on the same plane with Chicago.

I disagree, they need to go all out and win as many games as possible. This is going to be a really good division sooner than later. The Twins are better, the Royals have a load coming up, and the Guardians are the Guardians. Chicago's system is really thin, so they don't have much room to get better. That's the time to strike.

Montas fits their window just fine. you get him for at least age 29 and 30 seasons. he would be their #1 starter.

Montas 29

ERod 29

Mize 25

Skubal 25

Manning 24

Peralta 32

Wentz 24

Brieske 24

Garcia 24

Turnbull* 29

Daniel Norris appears to be headed to the Cubs.

I saw him hit a home run live at Wrigley Field. Not that it would help his case to want to hit there anymore ...
