2 weeks before owners lock players out, so if they cannot get anything else done soon, we are looking at 2 months of staring into the void

Maybe then, I'll fade away
And not have to face the facts
It's not easy facing up
When your whole world is black

I heard an interview with Jeff Passan and he was kind of going through the timeline of when a deal would need to be made in order for a normal baseball calendar season.  His line of thinking was a deal by the beginning of February allows for enough time to have a free agent blitz followed by a reasonably normal spring training leading into Opening Day.

I hope it gets resolved relatively quickly and the season starts on time. That would just be Detroit fans luck, they finally field a team that looks like they could at the very least be kinda competitive, especially if we do indeed sign one of the top SSs only for the season to get delayed.

Kind of like a 5 round draft in a year where you hold the top pick in each round?

Don't worry.  With Tony Clark in charge, the negotiations will be over after the first month.

They will get off to a slow start and he'll only come up with good ideas once the lawyers have figured it all out.

When your latest proposal is to lower the luxury tax by 30 million and install a floor, two things that can only **** off the players, it doesn't bode well.

I really thought we'd see this more often after Scherzer's signing.

Most times money on hand is better than deferred.

I’m getting close to the point where I will be surprised if we don’t sign him. So much circumstantial evidence piling up.

Pretty much. Not there yet, but there's a lot of smoke.
