Baez has the most power, but best overall could be debatable (unless you think he can sustain what he did with the Mets for a full season, which I find doubtful).

I won't aver that I think Baez will, since I have no behind-the-scenes evidence either way, but since he had that improvement once he went to a new organization, I do think it's more likely that they worked with him to make some adjustments, than it would have been if he'd stayed with the Cubs and had that same improvement.

IOW, I think it's more possible that Mets helped him with his plate discipline than the Cubs would have helped him with it.

I think its a bit much to ask a rookie to a hit third for a team that is hopefully competing for most of the year.

So baseball used two different balls last year?

I mean, how much more does it take to remove  Rob Manfred at this point?   He's a joke.

unfortunately, Willi Castro got the shitty one all last season.

I don't know if the balls were meant to fly different or perhaps one had a different texture or seams for better grip but there were a number of times watching games last year where off the bat I thought the ball was gone only for it to come up quite a bit short. Perhaps that was indeed the ball?

I don't see it as a problem with Greene in the 3rd spot as that will be a challenge for him... and we've already seen that Hinch is unafraid to challenge anyone under any circumstances.

Put Greene in the 3rd spot all year and it will be his learning curve: how to deal with MLB pitchers AND the pressure of the #3 spot.

I mean... I'm not focusing on getting to the playoffs next year. I'm focusing on this team growing together, and all the kids getting better. That's it. If they just miss the playoffs because of rookie mistakes or rookie walls then so be it. If we DO make the playoffs... gravy. And if we actually win some games in the playoffs... icing on the cake.

But I want Tork in the #5 spot all season and Greene in the #2 or #3 spot all season so they can learn what it takes to succeed.

Speaking of Greene, he has now passed Tork as our top prospect on Baseball America's updated list. Not a subscriber so I don't know where they rank league wide or the rest of the list but BA tweeted out that tidbit earlier.

I saw a quote saying that they were picking and choosing which games would get the juiced ball.  Yankees and Red Sox got the juiced ball.  Tigers and Royals got the dead ball.  I won't even post the tweet because the source is suspect, but anything seems plausible in the Manfred era.

The "Field of Dreams" game was the one that looked off to me. Balls were just flying.

Unfair.    Look at the times he got injured.    Crashed into a wall on a hustle play.     Crashed into another player on a hustle play.   The firstbaseman for the Rays was totally at fault for the season-ending injury because he got directly in the basepath (because he didn't know how to play first base) and Hill got hurt because he was hustling to beat the throw.

I'll take that.

Wow, that's just absolutely nuts and if it's true and can be proven,  is that a lawsuit waiting to happen?

I'm sure that'll help upcoming negotiations.

Manfred has got to go................

I appreciate the hustle, but he is of no use to the team if he keeps running into injuries.

He will probably be the Tigers best defender.  The only one who has the potential to be better is probably Hill and we don't know how much he will play.  I am not sure where you get 8th in all of baseball.  The numbers didn't show it last year, but he was one of the best in 2019.  There is no doubt he is a strong defender, but I am wondering where you got 8th best.

I read it somewhere. I think the Athletic. I will back burner this and look for it when possible. I remember going "wow"...but I don't claim anything but a sub standard memory at this point .

Wojo - Detroit News November 30. 9th not 8th :

Defense is where the Tigers needed help for Casey Mize, Tarik Skubal, Matt Manning and newly acquired Rodriguez. A quick dive into advanced metrics, via Statcast, shows since 2018, Báez ranks ninth out of 4,053 players in defensive runs saved.

I do wonder how much of their improvement came from just watching Miggy work, and how much came from obtaining hitting instruction outside the organization. Maybe J.D. and Nick should give Javy their coaches' dets.

For what its worth
