IdahoBert Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 The Cards beating the Dodgers and Max Scherzer is the stuff of dreams. Quote
IdahoBert Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 I’m not proud of rooting for teams that would rain on the parades of the entitled teams and their fan bases and the corporate entities that feed off these marque events. It’s like being a dog who if he can’t eat something buries it so no other dog can have it. But I’m OK being like this. I’m not proud of it but I’m OK with it. 1 Quote
Archie Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 Can't say I'm sad to see the Yankees out of it. Now I'm hoping the Cards can send the Dodgers packing tonight. Quote
RandyMarsh Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 It'll now be 12+ years without a title and only 1 in the past 21 years for the Yankees. Yeah not a big deal if you're any other franchise but for them that's quite a drought. Quote
1776 Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 Gerrit Cole threw 50 pitches in two innings. Awesome. I love seeing the high and mighty Yankees lose. Now I want to see Boston eliminated. Quote

Anything hit to right side was out if a fielder touched the pitchers mound with possession of the ball before the batter got to first that was out too. For instance if you hit a ball to the infielder since there was nobody covering 1st base all they had to do was throw it to the pitcher on the mound. Not sure if that was a universal thing everywhere, I think it was atleast in my era cause I moved a couple times as a kid and everywhere I played was like that. Yes, we did that, too. Quote

The 3 or so years where the team was making no effort to compete, nudged me into a mindset where I found other ways to enjoy baseball. I absolutely thrilled on the following play last night, because I knew it was ripping the guts out of Yankees fans everywhere. Quote

mtutiger Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 I'm the rare non Dodger fan rooting for the Dodgers tonight. I like Scherzer, I loathe the Cardinals, and I don't have the same level of dislike for the Dodgers as I do the Yanks or Sox 1 Quote
RandyMarsh Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 I now like Juan Soto even more now, your seasons over but you still get front row tickets to a rivals ballpark just to support a former teammate. Bonus points for wearing his old jersey too! 2 Quote
lordstanley Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 That's it for Max. 94 pitches through 4 1/3 innings. Leaves 2 on 1 out in a 1-1 tie game. Quote

RandyMarsh Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 I rooted for the Dodgers last playoffs cause I felt that they have been the best team in baseball the past 7 or 8 years and had nothing to show for it in terms of championships so I felt they were deserving. Now that they got that championship I don't care so much anymore. Quote
mtutiger Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 This game is a lot more entertaining than last night's 💣 Quote
Tiger337 Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 The game is tied in the 8th inning. Are they still doing the stupid free runner in extra innings for the playoffs? Quote
Tiger337 Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Ok, just looked it up. No ghost runners in the playoffs Quote
RandyMarsh Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Just imagine if Pujols comes in and hits the walk off against the Cards? Quote

RandyMarsh Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Pujols hits it on the screws but it's right at the CF. Still tied with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th. Quote
RandyMarsh Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Potential future Tiger Chris Taylor walks it off with a 2 run homer in the bottom of the 9th. 1 Quote

He was clearly less than pleased with the proceedings. I didn't realize he was already at 94 pitches. They TV guys were talking about his recent string of pitches and looking like had just pitched his best sequence of the night, but I don't think they ever mentioned the pitch count. This Washington Post column may be behind a paywall for some. I agree with a lot of what the writer says. Sometimes I feel the game is passing me by, which may just be a function of my age (I’m 54). https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2021/10/07/dave-roberts-max-scherzer-bullpen/ Edited October 7, 2021 by lordstanley Quote
